Wow, haven't updated much on the website for quite awhile! Well, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Valentine's Day and here we are in March! We actually took a vacation towards the end of July last summer and since then we've been dealing with some family health issues and life in general and if you can believe this...the chickens had to take a back seat for awhile! In January we attended the Pacific Poultry Breeders Assn. show in Stockton where it was good to see friends and admire the many beautiful birds exhibited. Our youngest son David won Champion Turkey with his Standard Bronze hen. Poor Bubba, our Narragansett tom had his beak put a bit out of joint by not placing 1st but seemed to regain his composure upon placing as Reserve Champion turkey. But I have to say, one of the most exciting things that happened at the show was I finally was able to procure a lovely Black Copper Marans hen for my studly but ever-so-lonely BCM rooster! Both are feather legged and I'm hoping they make beautiful music together (and chicks of course!) After having the incubators off for the longest stretch in years, we finally fired up my trusty Brinsea Octagon 40 with a small trial batch of eggs. Sunday morning we had Buff Orpingtons, Black d'Anvers, Silver Spangled Hamburgs, and a few white Silkies hatching. Nice to have some little peepers around once again!
